We won’t muck about with this one, this article does what it says on the tin!

Talking to the camera is not as easy as it looks, but it does help your overall confidence in speaking. It works great for social media marketing!

Social Media
With fear of sounding like a broken record, social media is one of the most powerful tools you have to advertise your shows for the following reasons:

  • Content
  • Direct messaging
  • Testimonials
  • Community

By utilising social media, you can interact with people directly and send them links, or host those links on your page so people can easily find tickets.

Talk to the camera
I hate doing this. But it works.

It’s proven that speaking to the camera is the most engaging content. It doesn’t come easy to most of us, but it does build on your skills as a performer. Here are some tips:

  • Be enthusiastic
  • Keep it short
  • Smile

This is definitely an acquired skill, but it will also help improve your performance on stage, alongside your confidence in general. Trust me, no one is good when they first start, but people will always watch, even if they don’t comment or like the post.

Mouth to mouth

“Viral marketing” is where people discuss the product or event with each other and is the strongest form of marketing. We trust our friends and family, so if they recommend a show, it is seen as more credible and most likely to result in a sale.

When you invite people personally, you remind them they’re important to you, and in turn, they want to support you. So speak to people, and you’ll be surprised at how many people show up!

Invite friends and family
Friends and family will always be there to support you. Even if they can’t make it themselves, they’re great for sharing posts and spreading the word!

Speaking directly to audiences helps them feel involved and can help you sell more tickets as a result

Plug at shows
The best sales technique is through demonstration. When you play publicly, whether busking, privately, or at open mics and live shows, you’re presenting your product then and there.

A really great trick to sell tickets for a show is to announce the last song—people will stop, applaud, and be willing to hear what you say.

Mention that this is your last song, but if they want to hear more, they can attend your future show (include time/date/location), and also plug your socials. Then you can send a link for tickets directly to any new followers, who are freshly primed to see you again.

Sell tickets while busking
Same premise as above. With busking, people aren’t often there for a long time as they see you while on other errands. This is a great audience to speak to as they have places to be but may want to see you again.

If you can, try printing a QR code on a sheet and invite people to check out the event. This helps drive fresh audiences to your shows!
