It’s too early for Christmas songs… although for us, it’s not! Christmas and New Year’s Eve are significant earners for musicians, and you should charge accordingly.
These gigs will require extra rehearsals for seasonal songs and demand a party vibe, which you’ll need to practice. Here’s how to secure the best shows and how to prepare!
Be Visible
November is the time when many companies, venues, and clients start booking live music for Christmas. The best way to secure shows is to get out there and play as often as possible right now, so people can see you.
Ensure your social media is up to date with relevant clips and high-quality photos. If you’re unsure, take a minute to read our article on how to improve your Instagram presence.

Grow Your Network
Play as many open mics, free shows, and charity events as you can—trust me, this will open doors to more opportunities. Even if you’re not being paid, come well-prepared with business cards to hand out to everyone.
You never know who will reach out later!
Charge Accordingly
Consider the extra rehearsal time (and costs) needed to learn seasonal and party songs.
For me, this includes re-writing and transposing certain songs to suit my act, which requires considerable effort before the events.
There is also high demand during this time of year, so you can charge up to 25% more for pub shows. Additionally, corporate and private events often pay higher rates, as companies have event budgets, and there is typically no expectation of repeat business from private shows.
Take Deposits
If someone books you for a high paying event, secure a 25-50% deposit to confirm the event. Try to take the deposit before locking in any arrangements.
There are plenty of shows available, and you’ll be surprised at how many last-minute gigs come up!
Artistree Opportunities
Since we are now a community of musicians, many places are reaching out to book the right talent.
We’ll match you with suitable opportunities, so it’s essential to keep your social pages and online profile polished. Clients will make their choices, and the Artistree does not take a cut—so please spread the word!
There’s plenty of work available, so if you follow the above tips, you’ll maximise your potential to book Christmas and New Year’s shows.
