Now that things are moving with Artistree, there are more and more opportunities for those eager to get involved!

When these opportunities come your way, you’ll need to send them photos, a bio, set lists, showreels, social media content, and more. Or, you could simply send them a media package. Here’s what you’ll need:

A media package is essential a zip file of key information to send to clients easily

Bio

A bio is simply a summary of your act to display on websites and other promo. Write this in the third person in short form (3-4 sentences) and long form (300 words approx). Try to include:

  • Where you’re from
  • Your genre
  • Artists you compare yourself to
  • Notable achievements (e.g. radio play)
This is how your media package should look - make it as easy as possible for your client to find what they need!
Pro tip: Include a document containing contact information, a bio, links to social media and reviews

Social media links and contact details

Include as much information as possible and clearly label it to give the end user as easy a journey as possible to find out more. Remember different people use different platforms to find you so you can rely on one outlet (e.g. instagram). Make sure to include:

  • Email
  • Mobile
  • Social media
  • Streaming platforms
  • Website (if you have one)
Include some videos for social media; some high quality and some from real shows to give the client an idea of what to expect

Video content

We spoke about the importance of a showreel in previous articles, however if you’re not there yet, use videos taken from friends. In your media package you should split them into folders if possible:

  • Covers
  • Originals
  • Live performances (e.g. taken on a phone)
  • Any themes (weddings, Christmas, paddy’s day, etc)

Try to include some rough videos taken on really great nights where you’ve caught the ambience of the room, so the client can see what experience to expect. High quality videos or showreels are used to promote on social media.

HD photos

I’d advise providing a range of photos if you have them; some smart, some cool and edgy, some with bright sunny backgrounds, some darker and more suitable for winter shows. There are subtle implications with what you wear at certain events, so try to think about which photos would suit which events.

Some great local photographers are Minus Tone (Windsor), Infocus (Reading) or Turntable (Wokingham). Alternatively, you can attend various songwriter nights where you may be lucky enough to get some shots taken for free in exchange for your performance!

Logos/decals/PNG files

Once you’ve started to develop a brand and have a logo or a specific font, send those over to clients too. Some of them will do their own posters and have some great creative departments who’ll go over and above to design posters. Give them everything they need and they’ll make some great work that works for both of you!
